Chinese Medicine

Chinese medicine is a complete medical system that can be used to effectively treat a huge variety of internal and external health concerns. While we use the term “Chinese medicine,” US acupuncturists like those at Watershed are generally trained in a system that incorporates insights from Japanese, Korean and other Southeast Asian traditions going back many centuries. It includes many modalities, all united by a common theoretical framework that looks at the body in very different ways than the conventional Western framework many of us are familiar with.

  • Acupuncture

Acupuncture involves the gentle insertion of very fine, sterile needles into specific points on the body that have been determined over thousands of years of research and study to have varying positive effects on the body.

  • Moxibustion

Moxibustion is the use of a special preparation of an herb, Artemisia or wormwood, that is placed on, or held near the body at specific points and burned, warming the body and producing a wonderful feeling of movement and nourishment.

  • Cupping

Many people who call Watershed are interested in cupping or cupping massage. This is an Asian form of bodywork that has become more well known since several celebrities were seen with large red marks on their backs.

  • Chinese Herbs

While acupuncture is the most well known part of Chinese Medicine, Chinese herbalism has an even longer recorded history of active use. Safe, effective & fun to learn about, let’s work together to make Chinese herbs part of your regular healthcare routine.

  • Chinese Medical Science

Chinese medicine is more than the various modalities and tools that are used.
